A Moment of Silence

Try to find within each of my drawings a balance between representation and subtle abstraction.

Many people think of abstraction as the complete elimination of representation. But simplifying elements, reducing complexity and drawing from imagination can be a form of abstraction as well. This drawing is somewhat dream-like being both based on a simple landscape and yet not attempting to be at all real either. The quality of the line, layer upon layer, builds up an atmosphere that is neither fog, mist nor clear. The lines create their own space. And that space, for me, is where my drawings live, inhabiting their own sense of place but still welcoming all viewers.
