Gavzilla

After I took this photo and was heading back to my car, I became entwined with class of new American citizens leaving a federal building about a block away from the sculpture. They were each holding little American flags and walking with jubilant friends and family. When one woman asked me to take a photo with her phone of her and her happy group, the photographer in me kicked in. I made them move a bit down the street to get a better back ground and arranged them into a pleasing grouping. Others saw me doing this and asked for the same so for a few minutes I was caught up in busy swirl of celebration. Some may look at The World’s Largest Gavel and see justice or some may see oppression. On that day it was the perfect symbol of happiness and belonging.
